The Root Cause of Anxiety and Self Doubt

Have you ever felt like anxiety and self-doubt are constant companions? You may feel it in your body with no explanation, and often that uncomfortable feeling moves towards your mind, creating chronic worry. This vicious cycle over time causes nervous system dysregulation and a host of physical and emotional symptoms which will negatively impact your life and wellbeing.

So, why does anxiety happen and how can we manage it effectively?

Well firstly, these feelings are there not because there's something wrong with you - anxiety is a perfectly natural, deeply embedded response in our human biology and psychology. Anxiety is part of a normal healthy response for humans, and is how we've survived as a species.

Chronic anxiety however, is a "faulty" survival response, that more often than not, stems from childhood.

Our brains are wired to protect us, especially the subconscious mind - that part of the brain that controls our beliefs and behaviours, and because it's unconscious, it's not something we're usually aware of.

Early experiences such as rejection or criticism, push the body and mind into creating self-protective beliefs. These beliefs, such as not being good enough or deserving of love are stored in our subconscious, and as we grow, our mind constantly looks for evidence that these beliefs are true, affecting how we behave.

In adulthood, this can lead to self-sabotage in relationships, negative self talk, overthinking, anxiety, self-doubt and lots of other negative behaviours that help to further embed that distorted image of ourselves.

Research shows that early emotional experiences shape the neural pathways that govern our stress responses. When those pathways are triggered by everyday challenges, our bodies and minds react with fear, even if the current situation is safe. In fact, our triggers and the way we react to them as adults, are directly linked to early events in our childhood - the root of where it all began.

Understanding this is a key to emotional freedom. By recognising that anxiety and self-doubt are conditioned responses rather than intrinsic flaws, you can start the journey to rewire your brain on a deep sunconscious level.

In my group program, the Connected Calm Method, we begin by examining these underlying patterns. You learn to identify the origins of your stress, often dating back to childhood, and see that these reactions are based on old programming that can easily with guidance, be rewired.

This awareness is the first step toward healing. Remember: Your nervous system was simply doing what it thought was necessary to keep you safe.
